Iconic Fashion Looks For Less (Not Cheap Darling, Just Less)

Pretty-Woman-Julia-Roberts-polka-dot-dressWhenever we see a red carpet event or a fashion show, three phrases will eventually come out of our mouths. Those three phrases are…“WTF is she wearing?”, “FABULOUS!”, and “I want it now!” Well, if you are anything like me, and I hope you are not (insert smiley face here), then you were maybe told that there is no way in fashion hell that you would own a magnificent dress like the ones in Hollywood.  Now you can tell that person to stuff it. There are many ways to get iconic fashion looks for less.

Here are some iconic fashion looks for less as in not cheap darling.

  • Jennifer Lawrence is the ‘It Girl’ when it comes to wearing expensive gowns on the red carpet. My favorite look of hers was the Dior dress she wore to the 2013 Oscars. Remember the one she tripped in? Want one like hers? You can get a replica for $710 dollars online. Too much? Then look for a similar wedding gown at a vintage shop.

  • Get Cher’s iconic plaid outfit from the movie Clueless for a fraction of what it is actually worth. You can get the plaid skirt at Forever 21 for $17 bucks. The cardigan is only $33 bucks on theoutnet.com.
  • Want to try a simple fashion look first? Get Jennifer Beal’s iconic look from the movie Flashdance for $22.99 dollars at Target.

  • Gwyneth Paltrow’s 2002 iconic fashion look is her gothic gown from the Alexander McQueen collection. Get a similar dress online at crazyinlove.uk.com for $110 dollars.
  • Julia Roberts had many iconic look in the movie Pretty Woman. The one that is easy to find is her polka dot dress from the race tracks. Get it for $46 dollars at lindy-bop.com.

  • 2012’s iconic look goes to Angelina Jolie in Atelier Versace. Her black dress with a high slit was a show-stopper. Get one like hers at Unique Vintage for $98 dollars.
  • Do not try to get any iconic Lady Gaga fashion looks. They will look to costume-ish on a normal human being.

Extra tips:

  • Remember that the dress does not have to be exact but it must have a close resemblance to the original garment.
  • The accessories make the outfit too so try to find some cheap versions of them too. Head to vintage shops for those or Forever 21. You can always hit up your mother’s jewelry box.
  • When it comes to shoes, do not spend too much. If it is a long gown then go cheap because no one is going to see them. If the original outfit had a Louis Vuitton heel, then paint the bottom of your heels red, no one will know.

There are many iconic looks in the fashion industry. Why not try finding similar outfits of your favorite ones. Remember, the goal is to keep the price reasonable but not too low. You want to look iconic not ironically poor. Leave the thrift stores as a last resort and never be afraid to ask your friends or family members if they have similar looks your iconic fashion calls for.
